Faux Grain Sack Table Runner

I love grain sacks and grain sack fabric; it an obsession really!  It can be kind of pricey and hard to come by.  Since I haven't been able to find just the right color and design in the size I need, I decided to try and make one.  I purchased a drop cloth from Lowe's and washed and dried it to make it super soft.    I cut it to the desired size (I don't sew so the edges are not hemmed but I like the rustic feel of the unfinished edges).  Using a grain sack stencil, I stenciled the stripes right on the drop cloth using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Duck Egg.

After a few days of use, I decided to use Stitch Witchery to avoid all of the fraying and stringy edges.  This was my first time to try Stitch Witchery; it was simple and easy to use.

Monogrammed Pumpkins

I love to create monogrammed pumpkins in the fall!  They are super easy to make and because they don't scream Halloween, I use them from September thru November.  Here is what you'll need...

pumpkin
stencil letter
polka dot dobber
acrylic paint
transparent sealer

This is the first year I've used the painted pumpkins outside in the direct weather.  After the paint dried, I coated them really good with a transparent sealer and allowed them to dry in the garage overnight.  So far so good.  I plan to respray them every 4-6 weeks just to be on the safe side.

Decorating for Halloween

For those of you who know me, you know I absolutely love Halloween!  Not the scary, gory, horror movie kind of Halloween...the other kind.  In fact, excluding Christmas, it is my favorite holiday.

I have teenagers and my son really likes the scary, gory type of Halloween but I usually play the "mom card"  which always trumps the "teenager card".  The last few years I have compromised a bit and agreed not put out all of the decorations that I used to use when the kids were little.  While I still cannot embrace all the blood and gore that my son reeeally likes, I have added a few bones and skulls and even a tombstone.

Because these pumpkins don't scream Halloween, they will be on display from September thru November.

The kids and I really enjoy using Pumpkin Master templates and tools when we carve pumpkins.  After you spend a lot of time carving your master piece, it really hurts your feelings when the bugs start to swarm and the face of the pumpkin eventually falls in as it rots.  Last year I wised up and purchased a few Funkins at Hobby Lobby.  (I always use the 40% off coupon available thru the mobile app which helps to offset the cost of the faux pumpkins.)   This Marilyn Monroe inspired design was carved last year and it still looks great.

The tombstone, skull and gargoyle are all from Target.

I absolutely love the concrete pots and pedestals that flank our front porch.  The pedestals were a gift and are quite old.  I am especially fond of the green moss that is beginning to grow on them!  I picked up the concrete pots at Russells Farm Supply just off the square.  After the summer flowers die off, I look forward to putting my pumpkins in the pots.  By the way...the pumpkins are old and came from Target.  They are the electric kind that light up and I used to display them on our screened porch but after they stopped working I simply cut the cords off and now I use them outside.

The witch door hanger was purchased a few years ago from Gift and Accessory Shop
The pumpkins and mums are from Country Gardens  I love shopping there!  They have the best ferns, mums and an awesome selection of colorful pumpkins, gourds, etc.

Happy Halloween and Happy Decorating!
